Under de rette forhold rydder ilden gammel vegetation væk, fører næringsstoffer tilbage til jorden og skaber plads til, at nyt liv kan begynde igen. Nogle træer, herunder visse fyrretræer, er endda afhængige af ildens varme for at åbne deres kogler og frigive frø. Samtidig ved jeg, at skovbrande ikke bare er en idé i et maleri. De medfører reelle tab, røg, frygt og ødelæggelse, og rundt om i verden risikerer mænd og kvinder deres liv for at bekæmpe dem.
