The lookout stood alone against the sky with very little around it except wind, distant mountain light, and the sound of the trees moving below. One pine leaned hard into the weather near the edge of the ridge, shaped by years of exposure. The tower itself was lost in the Bull Complex wildfire the following summer, which changed the way I looked at the painting afterward. What felt quiet at the time now feels temporary too.
