This painting came from a feeling I think most of us understand. Life can become heavy at times, whether from things happening around us or within our own lives, and it can be easy to lose sight of what lies beyond that moment. In this piece, the storm seems to surround the island, the water is unsettled, and the sky feels dark and uneasy. Yet at the centre of it all, the island is illuminated. The trees are growing together on little more than rock, with very little soil beneath them, and I love the strength in that. They are exposed, surrounded, and still standing, and in some cases, thriving.

For me, “Light Always Breaks Through” is a reminder that darkness is never the whole picture. Difficult periods can take up so much of our attention that it becomes easy to forget there is still hope beyond them. The light does not erase what is happening around it, but it reminds me that brighter moments always exist, even when they are harder to see.
