#298 – Driftwood – Originalus paveikslas

Along the shoreline, driftwood carries the marks of weather, water, and time in a way that feels both worn down and preserved at once. In this original heavy body acrylic painting on canvas, Canadian artist Jeff Dillon focuses on that quieter sense of endurance through layered brushwork, coastal light, and subtle movement across the surface of the water and sky. The painting balances texture and softness throughout the composition, allowing the driftwood to feel grounded within the landscape rather than isolated from it.

What drew me to this scene was the way the driftwood seemed settled into its place along the shore without feeling abandoned or broken. Years of water and exposure had smoothed the surface and softened the edges, but the form itself remained solid and steady against the movement around it. The shoreline stays quiet here. Small shifts in light move across the water while the wood rests almost motionless beneath the open sky. I kept coming back to that feeling while working on the painting. Not really decay, and not permanence either. More the sense that time changes things slowly while still allowing them to hold their presence.
