This stately painting shows a scene from the water’s edge in Muskoka, Ontario. The painting intimately focuses on the relationship between a grouping of coniferous trees, and the stirring sky above. The trees find themselves amidst the untamed wilderness, braced against the wind. There is a sense you’re drifting towards the majestic trees and their rocky pedestal. The dark and stormy sky is bright with intensity, thanks to the lingering sun which is obscured by the weighty and moody clouds. A blanket of old pine needles creates a mahogany hue on the rocks. This canvas is painted in many tints of earthy pigments including cerulean blue, cobalt teal, phthalo and sap green, cadmium dark red, titanium white and naples yellow hue.
