#296 – A Place to Return To

Original Work By Jeff Dillon

What draws me in with this scene is the depth created by mist. That subtle veil of light and air softens the edges but still holds shape. I don’t want the mist to feel like a vague, foggy wash. I want it to have structure. In this piece, the trees shift in tone as they recede, their forms breaking through the light in quiet layers. The rocky shoreline fades gradually, with just enough detail to give the eye something to hold onto. The water reflects the softness above, carrying those muted tones forward. There’s also a slight hint that fall is coming, just enough warmth in the palette to suggest the change in season.

Jeff Dillon the Canadian Artist, inspired by the bold colours and brush strokes of Post-Impressionist Artists. His unique style focuses on capturing light, not through the detail of realism, but with gesture, illusion, shape and colour. He offers a personal and distinctive style to the world through his bold use of colours and lines, often symbolic images or subject matter. Objects in the paintings retain their realistic appearance yet have a vibrancy and fluidity about them, unique to his work. Jeff Dillon’s new expression of Post-Impressionism is both beloved and revered in the Canadian and Global Contemporary Art World.
