A precocious and interested family of 6 baby eastern screech owls inspired this piece. The two owls in the painting conveyed the total expression of the group; one intently watching and another intently listening. As they age, these owls will eventually go their separate ways, but for now they are content with observing us from the comfort of their forest hideaway. The instinctively trained eyes of the owls are detailed in a naples yellow and bismuth yellow hue. Their feathers are densely layered in tiers with prominent colours of nickel azo yellow, violet oxide and mars yellow. The all encompassing green forest that surrounds the owls casts a sap green hue over their lush plumage.

Jeff Dillon the Canadian Artist, inspired by the bold colours and brush strokes of Post-Impressionist Artists. His unique style focuses on capturing light, not through the detail of realism, but with gesture, illusion, shape and colour. He offers a personal and distinctive style to the world through his bold use of colours and lines, often symbolic images or subject matter. Objects in the paintings retain their realistic appearance yet have a vibrancy and fluidity about them, unique to his work. Jeff Dillon’s new expression of Post-Impressionism is both beloved and revered in the Canadian and Global Contemporary Art World.
