The reflective quality of this scene is stunning. In this painting it feels as though nature has slowed down to allow us a moment of calm, there is virtually no movement in the environment at all. The deep lake is reflecting the majestic forest and mountain like a pristine mirror. There is a sense you could dip your toe into the water and enter another world. The autumnal colours are exaggerated by the setting sun, casting a warm glow on the mountains and trees. Dioxide yellow, paynes grey, cerulean blue, titanium white and burnt sienna make up much of this serene palette.
