Here we see the Canada Jay, otherwise known as the Grey Jay. This bird is most often associated with the boreal forests of Canada. Adult grey jays are known for their dusky plumage with softer feathering around the neck and chest. This painting instead features a juvenile grey jay, whose feathers carry deeper slate tones with subtle hints of cooler colour throughout the plumage. The quiet background atmosphere allows the bird’s soft texture and watchful expression to remain the central focus within the composition.
