A precocious and interested family of 6 baby eastern screech owls inspired this piece. The two owls in the painting conveyed the total expression of the group; one intently watching and another intently listening. As they age, these owls will eventually go their separate ways, but for now they are content with observing us from the comfort of their forest hideaway. The instinctively trained eyes of the owls stand out against the surrounding forest while their layered plumage blends naturally into the woodland atmosphere. The dense greenery surrounding the owls casts a soft forest tone throughout the scene, reinforcing the quiet shelter and closeness of their environment.
