Aptly named, this painting captures the setting sun as it slowly inches later into the afternoon. Many homes such as this one, were built in Elora Ontario, Canada sometime during the 1800’s. In the company of large, sweeping evergreen and deciduous trees, the home appears comfortably tucked into the cold drifts of snow.
While this piece is mainly cool toned, we see a glimmer of the changing seasons to come; fleeting afternoon sun laces through the foreground, gilding the woody details with its warm touch. The palette of this painting was completed using many layers of manganese blue hue, cobalt turquoise, paynes gray, pyrrole red, diarylide yellow, hansa yellow light, and ultramarine violet pigments.

Jeff Dillon the Canadian Artist, inspired by the bold colours and brush strokes of Post-Impressionist Artists. His unique style focuses on capturing light, not through the detail of realism, but with gesture, illusion, shape and colour. He offers a personal and distinctive style to the world through his bold use of colours and lines, often symbolic images or subject matter. Objects in the paintings retain their realistic appearance yet have a vibrancy and fluidity about them, unique to his work. Jeff Dillon’s new expression of Post-Impressionism is both beloved and revered in the Canadian and Global Contemporary Art World.
