About the Painting
This painting is called “Introspection”, and captures the idyllic beauty of Garibaldi Lake, in British Columbia, Canada. This lake lies within the Garibaldi Provincial Park, which is a protected area, and home to breathtaking features such as mountains, glaciers, forests, abundant wildflowers, meadows, and waterfalls.
The sky, mountains, lake, and shorelines, guide your eye to the center of the painting; first light is shining on the evergreens on the right hand side, creating a bright reflection in the water. The lake is extremely calm, with just a very small ripple disturbing what is nearly a mirror-like reflection. In this painting, many layers of diluted pigments are used to express the faint and sweeping clouds in the sky. The palette consists mostly of earth toned pigments, including, chromium oxide green, green yellow shade, light phthalo blue, prussian blue hue, with warm hints of Hansa yellow.
