Iridescent wing detail and layered reflected colour define this limited edition fine art print reproduced from an original painting by Canadian artist Jeff Dillon. The artwork preserves the delicate transparency and shifting light within the dragonfly’s wings, capturing the subtle complexity and visual movement carried throughout the original composition.

I chose to paint a dragonfly because I felt challenged by the composition. I worked carefully to mix pigments that would communicate the iridescent panes of the dragonfly’s wings; depending on the light, the wings can appear semi translucent or like a glimmering mosaic of colours. I find it interesting that the colours of the wings don’t fully represent what lies in front or behind them.
