Dette maleri udspringer af en følelse, som jeg tror, de fleste af os forstår. Livet kan til tider føles tungt, enten på grund af ting, der sker omkring os, eller i vores eget liv, og det kan være let at miste blikket for det, der ligger hinsides det øjeblik. I dette værk synes stormen at omgive øen, vandet er uroligt, og himlen føles mørk og urolig. Men midt i det hele er øen oplyst. Træerne vokser sammen på lidt mere end klippe, med meget lidt jord under sig, og jeg elsker styrken i det. De er udsatte, omgivet og står stadig fast - og i nogle tilfælde trives de.

For mig er “Light Always Breaks Through” en påmindelse om, at mørket aldrig er hele billedet. Svære perioder kan optage så meget af vores opmærksomhed, at det bliver let at glemme, at der stadig findes håb på den anden side af dem. Lyset visker ikke det, der sker omkring det, ud, men minder mig om, at lysere øjeblikke altid findes, selv når de er sværere at få øje på.
