Ce tableau représente un coq accomplissant ce que les coqs ont toujours fait : veiller à l'aube. Il y a quelque chose de profondément immuable dans ce rituel matinal. Les coqs saluent le soleil levant non pour se produire, mais pour marquer le temps, marquer leur territoire et réagir à la lumière qui déclenche leur horloge biologique. C'est un acte pratique, répété chaque jour, ancré dans l'instinct et le rythme. Dans « Là où je me tiens », le coq se sent enraciné dans la terre, entouré de blés ondulants et d'un ciel incertain, attendant son heure sans la précipiter.
