Cette peinture est née d’un sentiment que je pense que la plupart d’entre nous comprennent. La vie peut parfois devenir pesante, que ce soit en raison de ce qui se passe autour de nous ou dans notre propre vie, et il peut être facile de perdre de vue ce qui se trouve au-delà de ce moment. Dans cette œuvre, la tempête semble encercler l’île, l’eau est agitée et le ciel paraît sombre et inquiétant. Pourtant, au centre de tout cela, l’île est baignée de lumière. Les arbres poussent ensemble sur un sol constitué de presque rien d’autre que de la roche, avec très peu de terre sous leurs racines, et j’aime la force qui s’en dégage. Ils sont exposés, encerclés, et tiennent malgré tout debout, voire s’épanouissent dans certains cas.

Pour moi, « Light Always Breaks Through » rappelle que l’obscurité ne constitue jamais l’ensemble du tableau. Les périodes difficiles peuvent accaparer tellement notre attention qu’il devient facile d’oublier qu’il y a encore de l’espoir au-delà d’elles. La lumière n’efface pas ce qui se passe autour d’elle, mais elle me rappelle que des moments plus lumineux existent toujours, même lorsqu’ils sont plus difficiles à percevoir.
