#229 – Free Spirit

This painting is of a young owl high in the tree branches on a hot summer day. It is taking refuge in the shade and is enjoying respite from the heat. The leaves illuminate causing them to alternate their colours with the sunlight. The owl is aware of the viewers presence, but it does not seem bothered by it, it appears content to enjoy the peace and solitude of this moment. The painting has a calming effect and makes one feel as if they are also in the tree, surrounded by nature. The title, “Free Spirit”, perfectly encapsulates the carefree feeling that this painting evokes. This carefree owl seems to represent the free spirit we all have within us.
