Along the shoreline, driftwood carries the marks of weather, water, and time in a way that feels both worn down and preserved at once. What drew me to this scene was the way the driftwood seemed settled into its place along the shore without feeling abandoned or broken. Years of water and exposure had smoothed the surface and softened the edges, but the form itself remained solid and steady against the movement around it. The shoreline stays quiet here. Small shifts in light move across the water while the wood rests almost motionless beneath the open sky. I kept coming back to that feeling while working on the painting. Not really decay, and not permanence either. More the sense that time changes things slowly while still allowing them to hold their presence.
