Perched high among the summer branches, the oriole in this heavy body acrylic painting by Canadian artist Jeff Dillon appears suspended between rest and movement. The sharp contrast between deep black feathers and vivid orange plumage gives the bird a striking presence against the surrounding greens of the forest canopy.

Looking for the sky, we see a perched oriole ready to take off. This painting was inspired by the orioles that migrate through my local forests during the summertime. While they love a hearty feeder, they flock to forests to find insects and other foraged foods in the late summer. They are marvellously vibrant and the contrast of their carbon black and cadmium orange feathers sets them apart from the rich green summer colours.

The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity is also hand-signed and numbered by the artist.
