In this original heavy body acrylic painting, Canadian artist Jeff Dillon captures the quiet focus of a female red winged blackbird perched among swaying reeds while searching for insects hidden within the shoreline growth.

This female red winged blackbird has chosen a predictable perch on a swaying collection of creekside reeds. This painting captures the hurried focus of this little bird while she was mid hunt, nearly hidden from sight scavenging insects amongst the reeds and branches. The female red winged blackbird is often more difficult to spot than their flashy male counterparts. Her smaller frame and softly patterned feathers allow her to blend naturally into the surrounding grasses and brush, reinforcing the calm and understated atmosphere of the scene.
