Winter landscapes in northern Ontario often carry both harshness and comfort at the same time. In this original heavy body acrylic painting, Canadian artist Jeff Dillon captures an aged scotch pine standing watch above a frozen lakeshore, surrounded by young growth emerging through the exposed bedrock beneath the cold light of winter.

A cold yet comforting landscape of northern Ontario, featuring an aged scotch pine tree weathered by nature and time. It feels as though this pine is protecting the new growth below it and looking across the lake, forever in a locked stare. The lake and surroundings are frozen and a blue cast is creeping over the snowy scene. The little pines are poking out of the bedrock, establishing themselves in the hardened surface. Far off silhouettes of the forests across the lake take on the appearance of a mountain range. The contrast between cool winter tones and the lingering warmth of sunlight reinforces both the stillness and resilience found within the landscape.
The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity is also hand-signed and numbered by the artist.
