There’s a narrow balance in this piece between clarity and disappearance. Painted in heavy body acrylic on canvas by Canadian artist Jeff Dillon, the landscape slowly recedes into mist through softened shoreline detail, layered trees, and reflective water that fades gradually into light and atmosphere. Subtle shifts in colour and movement hold the structure of the scene together while carrying the quieter transition between late summer and the beginning of fall.

What held my attention here was the way the mist softened the landscape without fully hiding it. The shoreline remains visible, but only in pieces as it moves further into the distance. Trees break through the lighter air in uneven layers, sometimes sharp for a moment and then almost disappearing again depending on where the eye settles. I didn’t want the atmosphere to feel empty or washed out. The structure still matters. The water carries the same softness back across the foreground, reflecting the muted light and slight warmth beginning to move into the season. It feels close to that point where summer is still present, but the landscape has already started changing underneath it.
