Suspended against a darkened background, the betta fish in this heavy body acrylic painting by Canadian artist Jeff Dillon becomes almost entirely defined by movement, colour, and light. Flowing fins and layered iridescent tones give the fish a striking presence while the deep black backdrop allows the glowing scale patterns to emerge with intensity and clarity.

Betta fish are known for their flashy colours and long fins that flow around them like ball gowns under the water. This piece has a unique background, exclusively finished with a highly saturated black tone. The majestic fish is pictured in a flattering side profile, demonstrating its glowing scale pattern of vivid blues, violets, magentas, and reds. An ethereal iridescence graces the entire fish. These fish are native to Asia and very prolific in Thailand. In nature, they generally inhabit shallow bodies of water with abundant vegetation, including marshes and flood plains.

The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity is also hand-signed and numbered by the artist.
